City officials explore plans for mixed-use development in Takoma Park
According to The Washington Post, the City of Takoma Park is exploring opportunities for a mixed-use development on city-owned property at the intersection of Carroll, Ethan Allen and Grant avenues. The lot is currently located right next door to the Takoma Park-Silver Spring Co-op. The City hopes that potential developers interested in the project will consider including the longstanding neighborhood Co-op in their plans.
If the City’s plan becomes a reality, it will be part of a larger trend of development that is revitalizing the commercial areas of Takoma, D.C. and Takoma Park while also bringing lots of new amenities to the surrounding neighborhoods. The successful launch of the Republic restaurant and bar and plans to open a Busboys & Poets this spring are great examples of new developments that can appeal to local residents and visitors.
